ACE Chapter Meeting - Thursday, 7 January 2010

The meeting held on Thursday, 7 January 2010 marked the beginning of a new year, a new decade.  It was a time to pause and assess our goals; a time to renew our commitment towards achieving our goals; a time to strengthen our resolve to achieve the club’s goals by June 2010.  These were messages from Area Governor Anne Chung and President Cecilia Lee in their New Year address to members and guests.

No doubt, the theme for the evening centered on New Year resolutions as members and guests shared their thoughts in a brief self-introduction.  For some, resolutions are achievable goals for the year 2010.  For others, setting New Year resolutions is not a practice, with a view that “New Year resolutions are made to be broken”.

In the induction of new members conducted by VPM Doris Tan, new member Deborah Yap affirmed her commitment towards the mission of a Toastmaster, with the support of her mentor, David Chung - CTM CL.  Welcome to ACE Tmc, Deborah!

In the Table Topic segment, Table Topic Master, Yan Lin conducted the session with confidence and ease.  Members and guests were invited to share their views on new year resolution related topics.

The audience voted and the Best Table Topic Speaker award went to Leslie Lim - ACB CL.

After a 20 minute break for refreshment and fellowship, the second session began with the prepared speech segment followed by the evaluators’ reports.

There was no voting in the prepared speech segment as it did not meet the requirements.  The audience voted for the Best Evaluator and the award went to Leslie Lim - ACB CL.

The Language Evaluator was Gurion Ang - ACB CL, who conducted the language evaluation review in such an interesting and enjoyable manner, using a simple word of the day  - FACE.   Indeed, the snippets and the little rewards that he handed out to those who used the word of the day when speaking before the audience, encouraged and motivated members to improve their language skills.

In the presentation of awards,  Area Governor Anne Chung presented the CC award to Yan Lin and the ACS award to Andrew Kuan.  Both had completed the 10 project requirements for their respective awards.

On behalf of Immediate Past President Peter Koh, VPM Doris Tan received the ACE President Distinguished Club Award from Area Governor Anne Chung.  This award was given in recognition of the efforts of ACE Exco 2008/9 in achieving the President Distinguished Club goals under the leadership of Peter Koh – CC CL.

With the closing address from President Cecilia Lee, the meeting ended at 10.00 pm.

Come, celebrate Chinese New Year with us at our next meeting - Thursday, 4 February 2010 at 7.30 pm!
